Who: Zach Sims, CEO of Codecademy / NoMad, NYC

Describe the Codecademy office. What do you love about where you work? The Codecademy office is designed to feel like a home — a place you’d like to spend time with friends, talking about things you care for and feel passionately about. I’m usually in the office by 8, spending my days recruiting, meeting with potential partners, and working with our time on improving learner experience — I like that the space includes a number of communal areas for conversation and collaboration.

Take us on a tour of your desk. What’s most important to have close at hand while you work? This is my desk at home, which holds many of the same items I use in the office. To start, my computer, a Macbook Air, goes with me pretty much everywhere. There’s also a clock that was given to me by a close relative when I was in middle school. I was promised that it’d be the gift I’d keep with me the longest in my life. At the time, I thought that was crazy, but now I recognize it’s totally true. Then there’s my Kindle and iPad for reading, and a few pens and journals strewn everywhere — I like handwriting my notes.
